In-depth review

XTB Review (2026): Is It the Right Broker for Your Investing Style?

XTB has quietly transformed from a well-known CFD broker into one of Europe's most versatile investing platforms. Real stocks, ETFs, fractional investing, Investment Plans, interest on uninvested cash and one of the best proprietary platforms we've tested all sit in a single account. After researching it ourselves, here is our full 2026 review: what it does brilliantly, where it falls short, and exactly who it is built for.

15 min read · Updated for 2026

Key takeaway

XTB is one of the few European brokers that genuinely supports both long-term investing and more advanced trading in a single account. The xStation platform, Investment Plans and 0% commission on real stocks and ETFs are excellent — just keep the 0.5% FX conversion fee in mind if you regularly invest in foreign currencies.

30-second summary

⭐ InvestBeacon Rating: 8.2 / 10

✅ Best for: Investors who want to combine long-term investing with access to more advanced markets, without changing brokers as their experience grows.

💰 Fees: 0% commission on real stocks and ETFs up to €100,000 of monthly trading volume, but a 0.5% FX conversion fee makes investing in foreign currencies noticeably more expensive over time.

📈 Standout feature: Investment Plans make recurring ETF investing simple, while the xStation platform remains one of the strongest proprietary investing platforms in Europe.

🏦 Safety: XTB is publicly listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange and regulated by multiple European financial authorities, giving it a strong regulatory profile.

⚠️ Worth knowing: Although XTB now supports long-term investing far better than in the past, CFDs remain a prominent part of the platform. These are complex, high-risk products that are not suitable for every investor.

A broker that has evolved

XTB has changed significantly over the last few years. If you knew the platform mainly as a CFD broker, today's version may surprise you. Real stocks. ETFs. Fractional investing. Investment Plans. Interest on uninvested cash in eligible markets. Educational resources. Today, it's much closer to a complete investing platform than a traditional trading broker. At the same time, it hasn't abandoned its trading roots — CFDs, Forex and leveraged products remain an important part of the ecosystem. That combination makes XTB one of the more versatile brokers we've reviewed, but it also creates trade-offs investors should understand before opening an account.

InvestBeacon Tested

You can comfortably use XTB as a long-term investor without ever touching a CFD.

Buying real stocks, ETFs and setting up Investment Plans is straightforward, and the platform doesn't require you to use its more complex products. For experienced investors, the trading side is a positive. For someone opening their very first investment account, it may feel slightly more overwhelming than a platform designed exclusively for passive investing.

What makes XTB different?

Every broker we've reviewed has a clear identity. Trading 212 focuses on automation. Lightyear focuses on simplicity. Trade Republic combines banking with investing. Freedom24 expands your investment universe through bonds, options and professional research. Interactive Brokers is built for professionals. XTB sits between traditional investing and active trading. It lets you start with a simple ETF portfolio today, while keeping more advanced markets available if your investing journey evolves. That flexibility is one of XTB's biggest strengths — and one of the reasons the platform won't be the perfect fit for everyone.

InvestBeacon Insight

More investment products don't automatically make a broker better.

For many long-term investors, buying diversified ETFs consistently may be all they ever need. The value of XTB is that it allows you to expand beyond that if you choose to — not because you have to.

Who is XTB built for?

After reviewing the platform, we think XTB is best suited to investors who want flexibility without immediately moving to a professional trading platform. Perhaps today you're focused on buying one or two ETFs every month. Later, you may become interested in individual stocks. Over time, you might want to explore commodities or other markets. XTB allows that progression within a single account. That said, if your only goal is investing in UCITS ETFs at the lowest possible long-term cost, the 0.5% FX conversion fee is something you'll want to factor into your decision.

Fees — zero commission doesn't always mean zero cost

One of XTB's biggest selling points is its 0% commission on real stocks and ETFs. At first glance that's incredibly attractive, and for many investors it genuinely is. However, there's an important detail that's often overlooked. While XTB doesn't charge a trading commission on eligible stock and ETF transactions up to €100,000 of monthly turnover, investors buying assets in a different currency will normally pay a 0.5% foreign exchange (FX) conversion fee. For someone investing occasionally, that may not seem significant. For someone investing every month over many years, those costs can gradually add up.

InvestBeacon Insight

Low commissions don't automatically mean low investing costs.

If you're regularly investing in assets denominated in another currency, FX conversion fees can have a much bigger long-term impact than many investors initially expect.

Investment Plans

This is where XTB genuinely impressed us. Investment Plans are one of the platform's strongest features. Instead of manually buying ETFs every month, you can build your own diversified portfolio and automate your investing. You choose the ETFs, decide the allocation, set a recurring contribution — and the platform handles the rest. For investors following a long-term strategy, it's one of the most useful features XTB offers.

InvestBeacon Tested

Investment Plans reminded us of the philosophy behind Trading 212's Pies.

The implementation is different, but the objective is very similar: remove friction, build consistency and help investors stay committed to their long-term plan. If your investing strategy revolves around regular monthly contributions, this feature adds genuine value.

Fractional investing

Eligible stocks and ETFs can be purchased in fractional amounts, allowing investors to start with relatively small amounts of capital. Combined with Investment Plans, fractional investing makes the platform accessible even for investors starting with modest portfolios.

Where XTB becomes less competitive

Despite the attractive commission structure, the 0.5% FX conversion fee is the most significant cost. If you primarily invest in US-listed stocks or other assets denominated in foreign currencies, you'll encounter this conversion cost unless you already hold the required currency. Compared with brokers like Interactive Brokers, where currency conversion is considerably cheaper, that's a meaningful difference. For investors making frequent international investments, FX costs can become one of the largest ongoing expenses.

CFDs

XTB continues to offer CFDs across a wide range of markets, alongside its traditional investing features. For experienced investors, that's simply another available tool. For beginners, the presence of leveraged products can make the platform feel more complex than brokers designed exclusively around long-term investing. CFDs are complex financial instruments carrying a high level of risk and are not suitable for every investor.

InvestBeacon Insight

One platform doesn't have to mean using every product.

Many investors use XTB exclusively for real stocks, ETFs and Investment Plans, without ever trading CFDs. The flexibility is there if you want it — not because you need it.

xStation — one of the best platforms we've reviewed

A broker is only as good as the platform you'll actually use every week. This is where XTB genuinely stands out. Its proprietary platform, xStation, is one of the strongest investing platforms currently available to retail investors in Europe. Unlike many brokers that rely on third-party software, XTB has spent years developing its own ecosystem. The result is a platform that feels fast, modern and surprisingly intuitive. Whether you're checking your portfolio, placing an order or researching a company, everything is easy to find without feeling oversimplified.

Mobile app

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Fast, modern and intuitive. One of the most polished mobile experiences we've tested.

Desktop platform

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

xStation strikes a rare balance between simplicity and functionality — beginner-friendly without feeling limited.

After comparing xStation with every broker we've reviewed so far, we'd place it among the best overall user experiences. It isn't as visually minimal as Lightyear. It isn't as beginner-focused as Trade Republic. It doesn't offer the institutional depth of Interactive Brokers. Instead, it strikes a balance between simplicity and functionality — and for most retail investors, that's probably the sweet spot.

Education built into the platform

Another area where XTB performs exceptionally well is education. The platform includes market analysis, educational articles, video lessons, live webinars, an economic calendar, company news and market sentiment tools. We particularly like that these resources are integrated directly into the platform — you don't have to leave your broker every time you want to understand what's happening in the markets.

Product selection

Although XTB is often associated with CFDs, the platform has evolved considerably. Today, eligible investors can access real stocks, ETFs, fractional shares, Investment Plans, commodities, indices, Forex and CFDs across multiple asset classes. For most retail investors, that's a comprehensive offering. Importantly, using XTB for long-term investing doesn't require using CFDs — you can build a diversified ETF portfolio and never touch a leveraged product if that aligns with your strategy.

Safety and regulation

Safety is another area where XTB scores highly. The company is publicly listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, meaning it publishes regular financial reports and operates under the transparency requirements expected of a listed company. Depending on your country of residence, clients are onboarded through one of XTB's regulated entities, supervised by financial authorities such as the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF), the UK FCA or CySEC within the European Union. Client assets are held separately from the company's own assets in accordance with applicable regulations.

InvestBeacon Insight

Investment risk and broker risk are two different things.

Markets can always move against you. A well-regulated broker helps reduce the operational risk associated with the company holding your investments — not the market risk itself.

Where we'd still like to see improvements

Despite everything XTB does well, there are areas we'd like to see improved: lower FX conversion fees for long-term investors, a less prominent emphasis on CFD products for new users, multi-currency accounts with broader functionality to reduce unnecessary conversions, and continued expansion of long-term investing features. None of these issues outweigh the platform's strengths — but addressing them would make XTB significantly more attractive for passive investors.

XTB vs the competition

XTB vs Trading 212

Both brokers offer commission-free investing on eligible stocks and ETFs, both support fractional investing and both are beginner-friendly. The difference lies in philosophy. Trading 212 is built around automation and simplicity — its Pies feature remains one of the best tools for passive investors. XTB focuses on flexibility. Investment Plans provide a strong long-term experience, while xStation gives investors access to a much broader set of analytical tools. If simplicity is your highest priority, Trading 212 still has the edge. If you want a platform that can support both investing and trading without changing brokers later, XTB becomes much more compelling.

XTB vs Interactive Brokers

Interactive Brokers remains our benchmark for experienced investors — its pricing, FX conversion costs and execution quality are among the best in the industry. XTB is considerably easier to learn: the platform is more approachable, the interface more modern, the educational content significantly stronger for newer investors. However, if you're managing a large international portfolio or trading across multiple markets, Interactive Brokers still offers greater flexibility and lower long-term costs.

XTB vs eToro

Although both platforms include CFDs, their strengths are very different. eToro stands out for its social investing ecosystem — CopyTrader and the ability to follow other investors are what make the platform unique. XTB focuses less on community and more on giving investors the tools to build and manage their own portfolios. If you value social investing, eToro remains difficult to beat. If you prefer making your own investment decisions with the support of a powerful platform, XTB offers a stronger standalone investing experience.

XTB vs Trade Republic

Trade Republic focuses on keeping investing as simple as possible — banking, savings, a debit card, a clean mobile-first experience. XTB focuses on giving investors more flexibility, supporting both passive investing and more advanced market participation without requiring you to change brokers. If your priority is simplicity, Trade Republic has the advantage. If your priority is flexibility, we'd lean towards XTB.

If we had to describe XTB in one sentence...

XTB successfully combines long-term investing and active trading in one platform — but whether that's an advantage depends on how you invest.

Final verdict

XTB has evolved far beyond its reputation as a CFD broker. Today, it offers a credible long-term investing experience, supported by commission-free investing on eligible stocks and ETFs, automated Investment Plans and one of the best proprietary platforms we've tested. The xStation platform is fast, intuitive and genuinely enjoyable to use. Its educational resources are among the strongest available from a European broker. And the platform gives investors room to grow without forcing them to migrate elsewhere as their investing needs become more sophisticated.

That said, there are trade-offs. The 0.5% FX conversion fee is meaningful, especially for investors who regularly buy US-listed assets or invest in currencies other than their own. The continued prominence of CFDs also means the platform can feel more complex than brokers designed exclusively around passive investing. None of those factors make XTB a poor choice — they simply make it a broker that rewards understanding how its pricing and product offering work. For investors who want a balance between long-term investing and future flexibility, XTB is one of the strongest options currently available.

Frequently asked questions

Yes — with one important caveat. The platform itself is intuitive and easy to use. However, because CFDs and other leveraged products are also available, beginners should take the time to understand the difference between investing in real assets and trading leveraged instruments. Fortunately, it's entirely possible to use XTB exclusively for real stocks and ETFs.
